Bobcat recruit Bryce Jones

jonesBobcats are recruiting Bryce Jones from William Taft high school in Woodland Hills California. Jones is a 6-5 shoot guard / small forward, who had to sit out last year because of a transfer rule. As a result he was forced to play on Taft’s JV team.

Taft head coach Derrick Taylor describes Jones this way.

“He’s kind of a poor mans Scottie Pippen type,” Taylor said. “He’s long, rangy, athletic and plays the passing ways well. He rebounds, defends and just tries hard all the time. His jump shot improves every day and he works on it all the time.”

“He’s getting better every day by leaps and bounds,” he added. “He’s like a sponge. He was so raw when we got him and he just sucks everything up and does anything and everything we ask of him.”

Evan Daniels from Scout.com had this to say about Jones.

Bryce Jones, SG/SF, Compton Magic – After sitting out varsity and being forced to the JV squad at Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft this past year, Jones, a 6-foot-5 wing, hit the circuit ready to prove he can play. On the second day of the Jayhawk Invitational he made that point loud and clear. A lengthy prospect with above average athleticism, Jones is a guy that can score in a variety of ways. Although he did knock in a three, his mid-range game appeared to be his strength, as he pulled up for jumpers on a number of occasions.

Montana State and UC-Riverside have been recruiting Jones for a while now but recently with outstanding performances in the spring tournaments his recruitment has really taken off, with Oregon State, USC, Pepperdine, Utah, UNLV, and San Jose State now showing interest.
If you have been paying attention to some of the post I have done on the Bobcat recruiting you will notice a pattern here. The Bobcats have been recruiting Taft and Price high school pretty regularly. Jones, also plays on the same AAU team that Bobcat recruit Casey Trujeque as well as recruit Richard Solomon.
