Bobcat recruit: Devon Scott

I have heard that Brad Huse and his Montana State coaching staff have offer a sophomore basketball player from Northland high school in Ohio. Scott is a 6-8 (and growing), 195 pound, power forward prospect.

Scott is coming off the bench for Northland this year and playing behind 6-9 255 pound senior power forward Jared Sullinger. Sullinger has already signed with Ohio State and is the considered to be the #1 power forward prospect in the country, and quite possibly the #1 over all senior player in the country. Also on the roster is 6-8 fellow sophomores Jalen Robinson who is also considered to be a D-1 prospect. Overall the 16-0 Northland high school features 5-6 D-1 prospects.

Scott is averaging a very modest 4 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 block a game while shooting 68% from the field and 63% from the free throw line.

Scott is a quick athletic big man who is just starting to grow into his body as a basketball player. He could be a player who’s recruitment takes off in his junior year as he takes over the inside for Northland once Sullinger moves on to Ohio State.

ohshoops.com (an Ohio basketball prep site) had the following evaluation of Scott this year.

Devin Scott- Columbus Northland/2012
-athletic and long young big that is showing improvement with his foot work and ability to make moves on the offensive end in the paint, will be a force on the defensive end.

Devon Scott | 6-8 | PF | Columbus Northland | 2012
Scott is the second young big man the Columbus squad has to offer. He’s not quite as skilled at the moment (as Jalen Robinson), but also has crazy long arms and nice hops. Far from a finished product at the moment, Devon already has a handful of DI offers and will only be getting better down the line.

I understand that Montana State assistant Coach Starr has been on recruiting him for a while and has a good relationship with him. Still it is a long time until before his recruitment starts to take shape. I have heard a lot of schools are following him right now, but he does already have offers from Georgia Southern, Stonybrook, Montana St, Oakland, and St Francis, who are trying to in on him very early.

Sounds like an outstanding get if we can get him to commit. But I worry his stock will skyrocket in the future.

This topic isn't discussed nearly enough so I thought in the wake of the NBA Playoffs it somewhat timely. If you consider the length of the NBA season, the number of games, physicality, and the travel, it's hard to comprehend their abilty to sustain that schedule. Here are just a few of my beliefs on how these athletes are able to pull it off. 1)Th […]
