Recruiting: Where are the Griz at?

griz_1

With the early signing period starting on November 11 and last through the 18th I thought I would take a look at where the Grizzly programs currently stand, as I know it. It is very possible that there are a commit or two that I do not know about.

I think it has been a very productive fall for all two programs and for the most part they have filled most of their projected open scholarship. When I say, projected scholarships, I am talking about the number of seniors on the team plus open scholarships. It highly like that there will be at least one scholarship that may open up on a team due to underclassmen deciding to leave.

Projected open Scholarships – 4

Commits – 3

SG – Vaughn Autry 6-2 Junipero Serra high school California
SF – Michael Weisner 6-7 Walla Walla high school Washington
PF – Billy Reader 6-8 Lake Oswego high school Oregon

What are they looking for to complete their class: This year the Griz will graduate wings Johnson, McGillis and Staudacher and the following year Young and Taylor, so they need shooting guards and small forward and while they have gotten commitments from two so far, but I think they have to look for another wing. Of the four programs the Griz seem to be the most involved with JC players but still I think they are being selective, and still might sign high school kid if they find the right kid.

Notes: The Griz are still involved with a lot highly ranked wings at both the high school and JC level I think they will be very picky with their last scholarship.

Projected open Scholarships – 5

Commits – 5

SG – Torry Hill 5-8 Anaconda high school Montana
SG – Lexi Nelson 5-7 Butte high school Montana
SG – Kellie Cole 5-8 Bozeman high school Montana
PF – Jordan Sullivan 6-1 Sidney high school Montana
C – Carly Selvig 6-2 Glendive high school Montana

What are they looking for to complete their class: Robins Selvig should be done but if a scholarship should open up they have to sign a point guard…doesn’t he? I have been say that for past two recruiting classes but Selvig does what he wants and you can not argue with his results.

Notes: Selvig went out and got who he wanted and he should be done. I am still surprised that he did not sign/offer 6-1 Jackie Mee from Libby high school. She is definitely looks like a player who would fit with what the Griz do. Keep an eye on her.

Selvig calls Lexie Nelson a true point guard.

You are right I forgot to count Woods. That means though Woods who was sf/pf, Banney who is a small forward (kind of) plus Johnson (Mr. every thing), McGillis (SF) and Staudacher (SG) either will leave or never showed up , leaving only Stockton, Cherry, Taylor, and Young to man the three perimeter spots next year. Even if Autry can come in and contribute right away next year I think Tinkle will need to pick up a wing who can play and challenge for major minutes right away. That would point to a JC or a very good freshman. I could see him possibly looking for another big man and a JC wing, but he may also look for a JC wing and a high school wing.

5 is the number i come up with also. Another combo guard or shooting guard wing 6ft 5ish type that can shoot the three with handles.

The Griz also graduate Banny and have an open scholarship due to the non-arrival of Woods. They should have at least 5 schollies open for next year.
