I have mentioned a couple times that I thought the Bobcat women basketball team might be recruiting a few players from Australia. I have identified the name of a player I believe Binford and her staff are actively recruiting. Her name is Kate Webb and she is a 5-6 point guard from Runaway Bay, Queensland Australia
Webb has been very active in the Queensland state and national junior teams over the past 3 or so year. She was named to both the 2008 and 2009 Under-18 South Girl’s State Team and was only one of a handful of Queensland players named to the Australian National Championships to be played in Canberra Australia in December of this year.
I have not been able to locate her Australian Stats, but this past November she was on an Australian national junior team that toured the US and played 7 NCAA D-1 teams in 11 days. During this tour they played Washington State, Idaho, St. Mary’s, San Francisco and San Diego State. Webb (an remember she was a high school junior) Started 4 of 7 games and averaged, 8 points 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 rebounds against D-1 competition.
Webb is a pure point guard who can really push the ball. She also has a reputation as a deadly marksman from beyond three point range, but is not afraid to take it into traffic.
I am not sure who besides the Bobcat’s are recruiting her, but I think she was on campus this summer.
I beleive the Bobcats are looking at 3-4 other players from down under. I will pass along any other names I can dig up.
